The Morikami Museum offers a variety of educational programs for all ages. Providing informative and unique experiences in learning Japanese culture through classes, workshops, lectures, family programs, cultural demonstrations, and educational outreach. In addition, gallery talks, discussions, videos and film showings are held in conjunction with the lecture series and exhibits, enhancing and adding a new dimension to the educational programming.
Classes The Morikami Museum offers an assortment of classes taught by experienced instructors in the arts of bonsai, flower arrangement (ikebana), Japanese tea ceremony (sado), Japanese language and other cultural aspects.
Workshops The Museum features workshops on diverse cultural arts taught by local and guest instructors. Workshops offered include taiko drumming, Japanese tea ceremony, sushi making, Japanese garden design and more.
Lecture Series The Morikami's special presentations focus on a variety of topics related to Japan's culture and society. Guest speakers from academic, literary, art and international circles cover exhibit-related and general interest topics focusing on the humanities.
Family Programs Weekend family programs are open workshops that explore the everyday culture of Japan through simple craft making.
Cultural Demonstrations Demonstrations in Japanese cultural arts lets the audience experience a rare and unique taste of Japan. Demonstrations of Sado, the Japanese tea ceremony, are performed by Japanese masters on a monthly basis from October through June in the Seishin-an tea house. Join us for our new cultural demonstration, Demonstration of Koto, and listen to the tranquil sounds of this stringed instrument demonstrated by instructor Mrs. Yoshiko Carlton.
Educational Outreach Outreach programs are designed to promote understanding of Japanese culture through hands-on activities, presentations and interactive discussions tailored to meet the needs of schools, businesses or groups at their own locations.
